NIMXU MIXJA is an artistic project created with and for the Year 5 students at St Theresa College, Birkirkara Primary School, in collaboration with the Gabriel Caruana Foundation and creative practitioners Kristina Borg and Raffaella Zammit.
Through a number of walks, the students will explore and interact with the environment in the vicinity of their school and get a new perspective of it. Walking practice is more than merely walking from here to there or just a physical exercise. Walking allows us to observe details that we might usually ignore in our fast-paced life. It can help us explore new experiences affecting our well-being. The students will understand better the space around them: Birkirkara’s history, heritage, geography, and architecture, as well as its hidden and neglected spaces. This onsite walking will be developed and processed further through creative, linguistic, mathematical and social exercises. The project will culminate in a final community walk – open for all students, relatives and the Birkirkara community – and an exhibition at the The Mill – Art, Culture and Crafts Centre, run by the Gabriel Caruana Foundation.

NIMXU MIXJA huwa proġett artistiku għall-istudenti tal-ħames sena tal-iskola primarja ta’ Birkirkara, b’kollaborazzjoni mal-Gabriel Caruana Foundation u l-artisti Kristina Borg u Raffaella Zammit.
Permezz ta’ numru ta’ mixjiet fiż-żoni qrib tal-iskola, l-istudenti se jkollhom iċ-ċans jesploraw l-ambjent ta’ madwarhom u jħarsu lejh b’lenti ġdida. Il-mixi mhuwiex biss mezz li jwasslek minn punt għall-ieħor, u lanqas mhu eżerċizzju fiżiku biss. Il-mixi huwa ħafna aktar minn hekk. Il-mixi jgħinna nosservaw dettalji li forsi ftit nagħtu kas fil-ħajja mgħaġġla ta’ kuljum. B’hekk il-mixi jgħinna niskopru esperjenzi ġodda għall-aħjar tal-benesseri tagħna. Fl-istess ħin l-istudenti se jitgħallmu aktar dwar l-ispazju ta’ madwarhom: dwar l-istorja, il-wirt, il-ġeografija u l-arkitettura ta’ Birkirkara, kif ukoll dwar l-ispazji mistura u minsija tal-lokalità. Dawn l-esperjenzi se jiġu żviluppati permezz ta’ eżerċizzji kreattivi, lingwistiċi, matematiċi u soċjali. Il-proġett jilħaq il-qofol tiegħu f’mixja kollettiva u komunitarja – miftuħa għall-istudenti kollha, familjari u l-komunità ta’ Birkirkara – u b’wirja tax-xogħol tal-istudenti ġewwa The Mill – Art, Culture and Crafts Centre (il-Mitħna ta’ Ganu) f’Birkirkara li hija mmexxija mill-Gabriel Caruana Foundation.
