The 7th April would have been Gabriel Caruana’s 90th birthday. On such an occasion we wanted to remember the artist as well as the person. Well known by many and loved by many who knew him well, Gabriel Caruana attained a solid reputation as a contemporary artist not only in Malta but also internationally.
The exhibition, curated by Mary Rose Caruana, takes us on a personal journey exploring Gabriel Caruana’s character traits. Caruana had strength and perseverance, commitment and love for art, which he made his lifelong quest. He once confessed he “could not live without Art”. His door was always open, and he was always grateful to all who offered him support. Caruana’s inventiveness ensured he never was short of a medium to create his artwork.
These characteristics were expressed through Caruana’s artistic language and we can see them through a selection of work which will be exhibited at The Mill – Art, Culture and Crafts Centre, Birkirkara. His art provides the viewer with a glimpse of who Caruana was and how he keeps on living through his art.
Concurrently a new selection of artwork by Gabriel Caruana will be available through a fundraising initiative for the Gabriel Caruana Foundation to support its artistic programme.
