*UPDATE* SELECTED ILLUSTRATIONS!

We tried to make 2020 a little bit brighter and this open call was a pleasure to hold! Firstly, a big well done to all those who submitted their illustrations and works on paper in response to our call to celebrate The Mill’s 30th! It was a a mighty task to choose from amongst the illustrations submitted which best represent The Mill – Art, Culture and Crafts Centre. We had a beautiful selection of submissions!

A total of 10 illustrations have been selected, illustated by Ed Dingli, Joyce Camilleri, Luke Caruana, MaltaType (Matthew Demarco), textpresso (Manuela Zammit), Noura Abdelhafidh, Steffi Venturi, Steven Scicluna, Te Fit-Tazza and Zack Ritchie!  We’re so pleased to see The Mill reinterpreted through different approaches, creatively and each having unique aesthetic qualities!

This initiative is also a means to support creative practitioners and also to fundraise for our non-profit organisation. We are selling limited edition prints of each illustration forming part of The Many Faces of The Mill collection. Each illustration is printed in A4 size, on Hahnemühle Photo Rag Ultra Smooth fine art paper, 308gsm, 100% cotton, acid and lignin free printed at Ilab Photo. All prints include a certificate of authenticity signed by the Foundation’s Director, and includes the edition number (ex. 1/30). To view the whole collection head over to our newly minted online shop. A limited edition print of 30 prints is available for each illustration.

CALL DETAILS
What’s all this?

We’re celebrating The Mill’s birthday! On the 22nd of June 2020, we will be celebrating the 30 year anniversary from the day Gabriel Caruana opened The Mill – Art, Culture and Crafts Centre. Since then, The Mill has hosted numerous events and exhibitions, seen the beautiful art of many local and foreign artists and welcomed so many people inside and outside! Among other activities, we are interested to collaborate with artists who would like to celebrate with us and illustrate the many faces of The Mill. The Mill is an important aspect of the Gabriel Caruana Foundation (VO1236) and our community and we appreciate the support of artists who would like to mark this celebration with us! We also want to support our artistic community through different means and collaborations.

WHAT DO WE WANT?

We’re after your interpretation of the old lass, The Mill. Her body is nearly 300 years old but her heart is a young 30 year old. She’s always looking for artists, creatives, and a community willing to share their self expression. She keeps the legacy of Gabriel Caruana much alive, and once you get to know her she’s always on your mind. She’s quite a rebel, in her own quiet way; she’s rooted in history but always up for a challenge. If you’re inspired submit your illustration of The Mill by the 30th May 2020, in the following formats:

  1. Print ready format A4 (21 by 29.7 cm, 300dpi)
  2. Print ready format postcard size (10 by 15 cm, 300dpi).
  3. Web ready format (600 by 848 pixels)
