Where am I going? (2019/2020) consists of a series of monotype prints pressed on Fabriano Rosaspina Paper by Stephania Micallef that was first exhibited during ‘Points of Transition’ collective exhibition at The Mill, curated by Elyse Tonna and part of the SPRING Artistic Programme by the Gabriel Caruana Foundation.
While creating the very first Monotype print, Stephania wondered “where am I going?” She has since embarked on a journey to discover minimalistically expressed landscapes. Imagined landscapes reduced to lines, shapes and curves flowing in movements with each other. Her monotypes are a monochromatic palette of black and white, two opposite values that coexist and interact, a playful dance between light and dark. Horizontal lines exude stability yet continuity, an invitation to wonder what is beyond. The black ink flows past the borderless thorn edged paper leading the viewer to bridge the artwork with their own imagination, an invitation to travel with Stephania’s meditative explorations.
