Cardboard Series (2020) consists of works on cardboard by Stefan Spiteri that was first exhibited during ‘Points of Transition’ collective exhibition at The Mill, curated by Elyse Tonna and part of the SPRING Artistic Programme by the Gabriel Caruana Foundation.

This series of work intersects painting, sculpture, collage and found objects. These works emerged from Stefan’s desire and necessity to loosen up a more systematic and technical painting practice. Additionally, the works are rearranged materials sourced only from the artist’s workshop. The materials used are objects that captivated Stefan’s eyes and that he collected over the years, including discarded fragments from previous projects and residue of paintings executed in the same space.

Cardboard Series is part of an ongoing process of less controlled work that gives more freedom and understanding to the materials used through the process of instinctive making.
